WHO

Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2020

WHAT

The summer of 2019, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark. I took a graphic design class where our task was to create a new logo and branding for the 2020 Copenhagen Jazz Festival. The festival is a celebration of art and culture that occurs every summer in the heart of Copenhagen.

HOW

I created a logo reflecting the spontaneity, rhythm, and liveliness of jazz. Each piece of the logo, though not exactly alike, comes together into a cohesive whole. I also developed a visual identity surrounding the logo that included a bright color scheme and explorations of the shapes making up the logo. They’re reflected in a set of posters, Instagram theme, and concert tickets.

WHY

With over 1300 concerts at 130 different venues, the festival effectively takes over the city for a week and fills the streets with music and happy concert-goers. I wanted to reflect this bright, enthusiastic atmosphere in my designs. The applications I created center in on the individual performers, as they are the ones who truly make the festival shine. And the logo itself is a visual representation of jazz, showcasing multiple unique elements coming together to make something cohesive.
